Our activities around the world

PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy, has always been a search for truth, a process of going more deeply into the knowledge of nature, the human being and the universe. The word Philosophy comes from the Ancient Greek and means love of wisdom (philo-sophia).  It is this love of wisdom that inpires us to want to change ourselves and make things better. And so in this sense, New Acropolis promotes a philosophy that is practical and active - it consists of studying the timeless wisdom of the world and putting these teachings into practice in our everyday life in the quest to develop our potential, improve ourselves and the world in which we live!

We invite you to take our introductory philosophy course to discover how philosophy can help us enrich all aspects of our life, even in the face of life's numerous everyday challenges.

Universal Wisdom of the World

At New Acropolis we study the wisdom of the world: philosophies of the East and the West. Through this comparative study, we discover that many teachings and themes are universal. They may be expressed in different ways depending on time and geographical location, but the essential message is the same. These timeless teachings are an endless source of inspiration and even though ancient, are very applicable to our modern lives today.

Active and Dynamic Learning Environment

New Acropolis provides a very supportive and dynamic learning environment. The philosophy classes allow for a study, discussion and reflection of the great philosophical teachings. In addition, there are also opportunities outside the classroom that further accelerate the understanding of the teachings and deepen the reflection process. Interactive dialogues lead to broadening of perspectives and allows us to learn from each other's experiences. Working with others on volunteer projects allows practical application and integration of the teachings.  And all of this is done with other volunteers who love philosophy, have a passion of developing themselves and share the idealistic vision of building a new and better world!

So, why wait? Give the philosophical adventure a try by participating in our events or philosophy introduction course!

INTRODUCTION COURSE

CULTURE

Have you ever felt moved by a painting, a piece of music, a play, a poem, or a dance? When we are exposed to refined creative expression, it broadens our horizons and opens up our heart to all expressions of the spirit. Something resonates within us and propels us to participate.

Theatre Like a plant, a flower, or anything that grows, culture is dynamic. True culture is a living process that flourishes as a result of new social, artistic, scientific, intellectual and spiritual contributions.

At New Acropolis one can become a participant in and a creator of a renewed vision of culture: a culture that is life affirming, transformative, valuable, enriching, and nourishing. By promoting a universal celebration of cultural values, meaningful and practical philosophical messages can be understood and accessed by all.

A major role in society

Culture has a social, moral, philosophical and spiritual role to play in our society and in our world. Culture helps to shed light upon numerous modern-day issues and conflicts. It provides us with knowledge and the ability to think globally and make informed, adaptive and wise decisions. We have a legacy of over 10,000 years of human history and experience that we can benefit by adapting it and giving it new life.

Culture nourishes the heart

Tapping into the world’s diverse cultures and civilizations can have significant benefits: enriching our knowledge of the world and its cultural forms, Culture1fostering greater awareness of diversity and increasing empathy.

Many of our cultural activities are provided by volunteers who seek to express something authentic from their hearts. These experiences are rewarding as they nourish the soul and help release tensions of everyday life. Culture brings enjoyment for both the artist and the audience, through the interaction of creativity and imagination, and all benefit from that generous effort.

Cultural Activities

We explore many art forms, crafts and traditions. We visit museums and exhibits and sites of cultural and historical interest, Culture2and we strive to bring people into closer contact with nature through hikes, camps and other wilderness activities.

Come and experience Culture with us!

VOLUNTEERING

~ The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others ~
- Mahatma Gandhi

To volunteer is to express the best of oneself. It is to give with an open heart, without any expectation of receiving something in return.

Without us even being conscious of it, our modern culture has instilled in us a "give and take" mentality, making us forget the true nature of generosity. Volunteering is a great opportunity to develop a pure contact with the unselfish part in ourselves and recognize that we are all part of something greater.

At New Acropolis, we want to build a better, more just, and more humane world. We are volunteers from all walks of life, age groups, and cultural backgrounds, who seek to create opportunities to work towards common goals.

Enhancing well-being in ourselves and our communities

Volunteering forms an important part of the philosophical platform promoted by New Acropolis. Volunteering, guided by ideals of service, generosity, and altruism brings about profound changes in society, and in the hearts of those who practice it. When we find ways to give, we feel useful, energetic, enthusiastic, and creative.

Learning to be an effective, happy volunteer!

We actively encourage people to take on civic responsibility and to become involved in a community project that matches their interests and personal characteristics. Our training programs for volunteers aim to equip individuals with the necessary skills to play an integral role in society.

Exciting growth promoting projects

Our school of philosophy offers many volunteer opportunities. We actively seek to work together, and to partner with associations for the benefit of society.

By volunteering, members and friends of New Acropolis express their social commitment through the creation of centers of philosophical learning, humanitarian actions, social and educational projects for those most in need, and ecological and heritage restoration activities. These activities are organized by the association itself or in cooperation with other organizations and NGOs.

New Acropolis fosters the creation of volunteer projects and groups around the world. In the programs designed by New Acropolis International, the ethical, technical and specialized training of volunteers is given special care and attention.  It promotes cooperation with public and private voluntary organizations, such as GEA, UNICEF, Manos Unidas, Red Cross, etc.

"The IONA reiterates its commitment to the society of the present day through its implementation of specific actions of solidarity in parts of the world where catastrophes, poverty, discrimination and injustice fall upon the most disadvantaged sections of society."
